Reigning champion De La Salle University hopes to overcome University of the Philippines (UP) when they collide in the 79th UAAP women’s volleyball tournament Sunday at the FilOil Flying V Center in San Juan.

The Lady Spikers tumbled in their first meeting.

The Lady Maroons were in control as they masterfully destroyed the Taft spikers.

La Salle head coach Ramil De Jesus said there’s something with UP’s reflexes which his wards have to study for them to rebound.

“May galaw ang UP na medyo hirap ang team so dapat namin ayusin.”

The Lady Maroons were fresh from a morale-boosting victory over University of the East following a four-game skid.

But De Jesus said the Lady Spikers shouldn’t take their foes’ slump as an advantage.

The Lady Maroons are also hungry for victory as they need to claw their way back to the top to keep their Final Four chances alive.

“Sa side ng UP, hindi mo pwedeng sabihin na: ay, ito sunod-sunod yung talo. May advantage ang UP na kailangan namin gawan ng paraan para pagdating namin ng Sunday ready kami.”

La Salle, however, wanted to seal a spot in the semis to join rival Ateneo, which survived a thrilling five-set battle over Far Eastern University.

“Gusto ko masecure kami sa one and two (spots) eh – ‘yun yung target talaga namin para atleast may advantage pagdating ng semis.”

But first, they have to overcome UP — the same team that clobbered them in the first round.
