Six nations have qualified for the women’s volleyball tournament at the Rio Olympics, with six spots still up for grabs for the main event starting on August 6.
One of the remaining spots will be filled by the winner of the African Olympic Qualification Tournament from February 12-19.

There are two other World Olympic Qualification Tournaments to be held in May-June, one of which doubles as the Asian Olympic qualifier.
Here’s the full list of women’s teams who have already punched their ticket to Rio and how they did it.
Brazil – Host nation.
Russia – European Olympic qualifier winners.
Argentina – South America qualifier winners.
USA – NORCECA qualifier winners.
Who’s still in the running to qualify?
Thirty nations remain in the hunt for the six remaining spots on offer. Keep reading below for a breakdown of each remaining qualifier.
African Olympic Qualification Tournament women’s (February 12-19, Cameroon).
Eighteen teams will contest the Africa qualifier, with only the winner punching their ticket for Rio. Second and third place go to the Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament (May 14-June 5).
Women’s World Olympic and Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament (May 14-22, Metropolitan Gymnasium, Japan).
This is an eight-team tournament that doubles as the Asian qualifier. Four spots are on offer in total. The top three teams and the top-ranked Asian team (outside of the top three) will qualify for Rio. If one or more Asian teams finish in the top three the next-best ranked Asian team would also qualify.
Japan – Tournament hosts.
Korea – World Rank 9.
Thailand – World Rank 13.
Kazakhstan – World Rank 26.
Netherlands – Runners-up at European qualifier.
Italy – Finished third at European qualifier.
Peru – Runners-up at the South American qualifier.
Dominican Republic – Runners-up at the NORCECA qualifier.
Intercontinental Olympic Qualification Tournament (May 14-June 5 – Venue TBC)
Four teams will fight for one Olympic berth at this controversial qualifier. While only one spot is on offer, it is arguably an easier path than the Women’s World Olympic and Asian Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Columbia – Finished third at South America qualifier.
Puerto Rico – Finished third at NORCECA qualifier.
TBC – Second place African Olympic Qualification Tournament.
TBC – Third place African Olympic Qualification Tournament.
