Generika-Ayala may have tumbled in the recent Belo Philippine Superliga (PSL) Invitational Conference, but it gained massive respect following a fourth-place finish.
And for head coach Francis Vicente, it’s a strong indication that the Lifesavers are slowly improving.
He said with team captain Gen Casugod slowly embracing the leadership role and fresh recruits like Bia General, Acy Masangkay, Angeli Araneta, Carol Cerveza and Fiola Ceballos steadily improving, the future looks bright for the Lifesavers.
He added that the height and firepower are already there; all they have to do is to work as one solid unit and translate the potential into victories.
“Oo, okay na yan. Lalaban na yan sa All-Filipino Conference.”
Vicente said they would take it one step at a time.
“Hanggat maari, iangat natin.”
“Pero ayaw ko muna magsabi kung fourth, second o champion. Malabo pa yun. Ang goal namin is iangat ang ranking ng team namin.”
But mixing it up with the heavyweights like Petron, Cignal and Foton wouldn’t be a walk in the park.
Vicente fully knows that tougher challenge awaits them as they open their All-Filipino Conference campaign on May 20.
That’s why a massive buildup needs to be done.
“After ng Invitationals, mas mahaba na yung time namin para mag-ensayo. So yung preparation namin for next conference mas titindi pa.”
Casugod echoed Vicente’s statement.
“Ako, I feel na mas aangat pa kami next conference. Yun yung sinasabi ni coach Francis: May kalalagyan na talaga kami sa All-Filipino.”
Casugod obviously trusts Vicente.
She’s keeping her faith.
She knows their time will come. And the whipping girls will soon blossom into champions.
