La Salle sets eyes on the prize

De La Salle University delivered a beast of a performance to crush mortal rival Ateneo de Manila, 25-22, 25-22, 25-21, in Game 1 and inch closer towards the coveted UAAP women’s volleyball tournament crown.

While the Lady Eagles vowed to go for the equalizer; the Lady Spikers have something in mind.

They will go for the kill.
“We’re so happy. We moved one step closer to our goal.”

“But still, we don’t have to be satisfied or complacent. This is just one game. We still have to work hard to reach our ultimate goal which is to win the UAAP title.”
Roadblocks for La Salle

This season has been a roller-coaster ride for the Lady Spikers.

After posting a huge straight-set win over the Lady Eagles in the first round, sideliners thought that La Salle will slice through its remaining games like a hot knife to a butter.

But fate had a different script.

The Lady Spikers surrendered a heart-breaking five-set loss to the Lady Eagles in the second round that completely pushed them out of the top spot entering the Final Four.

In the semis, the clashed with a gutsy Far Eastern University (FEU) squad where they suffered a five-set humiliation highlighted by a brutal meltdown in the deciding set.
“It served as our motivation, our training ground to strive harder.”

“It was like a wake-up call which served as a reminder that we should still work hard to reach our goal.”
Going for the kill

Galang said now that they have star player Alyssa Valdez and the Lady Eagles on the ropes, it’s time to deliver the knockout blows.

So when the bright lights of Game 2 have been switched on, the Lady Spikers will waste no time in jumping the gun and pounding hard on these Lady Eagles to finally avenge the tears that welled through their eyes the past two seasons.
“We don’t just want to win; we really need to win. We will treat Game 2 as the final game, the culmination of all the hard works and sacrifices we did just to get the crown back to La Salle.”
And if it will be a fitting ending to the greatest rivalry in college volleyball.
