The Magnificent 7 may be the best, the most powerful players in the country today. But getting into the world stage wasn’t an overnight process.

The Magnificent 7 – or the seven of the best Filipina volleyball players – formally kicks off its training camp in preparation for the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship at the Mall of Asia Arena from Oct. 18 to 23.

Team captain Rachel Anne Daquis of RC Cola-Army was in attendance together with teammate Jovelyn Gonzaga, Frances Molina and Jen Reyes of Petron, Mika Reyes and Kim Fajardo of F2 Logistics and Jaja Santiago of Foton in the workout that was supervised by Shun Takahashi of Japan.

Two days later, seasoned Serbian guru Moro Branislav joined the team together with imports Stephanie Niemer and Lindsay Stalzer of the United States, Yuri Fukuda of Japan, Tichaya Boonlert of Thailand, Ekaterina Krivets of Russia and Yevgeniya Nhukhalova of Ukraine.

Olympian Lynda Morales of Puerto Rico was already in town as early as Thursday. She, however, was excused from the open media workout as she was still suffering from jetlag caused by a grueling 17-hour travel from California to Manila.

So yes, PSL Manila is already complete.

And it is now ready to face the titans of world volleyball.

But before we go any further, let us take a look back at the careers of these seven brave Filipina players in the Philippine Superliga. Let us reminisce their ups and downs, their victories and heartaches, and how they worked their tails off just to step into the biggest stage in volleyball.

As they said; the journey to a thousand miles begins with an single step.

And that first step was made in the PSL.
